Conditions Treated

Back Pain

This is the most common presenting symptom treated by an Osteopath and 80% of the population will at some time experience low back pain.  It is usually related to wear and tear or to disc injury.  It is also very important to exclude other possible causes.

Sciatica

This is a pain in the buttock which extends down the back of the thigh and may affect the lower leg, extending into the foot.  It is normally referred from the low back or can be caused by irritation to the sciatic nerve.

Arthritic Pain

This means inflammation of a joint and there are many types of arthritis.  Osteoarthritis can be helped when there is inflammation, nerve pressure, stiffness and muscle tightness around the diseased joint.

Frozen Shoulder

This is caused by adhesions within the shoulder that severely limit its movement.

Tennis/Golfers Elbow

This is caused by injury to the tendons that attach the muscles of the forearm to the elbow.

Headaches

There are many causes of this associated with tension, strain and lesions in the upper back, neck and even the jaw which can be helped.  Although more serious causes need to be ruled out, the above can be helped along with sinus problems and certain causes of migraine.

Neck & Shoulder  Pain/Tension

Poor posture, general wear and tear to the discs and joints in the neck, certain occupations and sports may result in tension, joint inflammation and restricted movement.

Glue Ear

Simple drainage techniques to the sinuses, eustation tube and lymphatic system can give excellent results.

Repetitive Strain

This can be helped by improving posture, especially whilst sitting, thus taking strain off the musculoskeletal system.

Minor Sports Injuries

This is a very important part of our work.  There could be mechanical problems resulting in frequent pulled muscles or ligaments or affecting joint function.

Pre/Post Natal Back Pain

Pregnancy causes the body to change its’ shape and weight and this is associated with stress to the musculoskeletal system.  These stresses vary with the individual and towards the latter stage of the pregnancy, when ligaments relax, problems can arise.  Osteopathic treatment and advice can be of great benefit.
